Get On Up Off That Floor!

Okay… maybe we don’t all want to be sex machines. But I certainly want to be strong, limber, and coordinated. Young bodies can so easily get down and then up off the floor. I want to be able to do that too. Now and well into my 60s, my 70s, and beyond. Picnics, Lego, and wrestling matches with my kids… and then grandkids?! Yes please.

Have you heard of the “sitting-rising” test? This simple challenge asks you to sit down on the floor and then get on up without using your hands or knees. It’s not as easy as it sounds.

You may not agree with the notion that proficiency in this test is indicative of a longer life. But I bet you can appreciate how better strength, mobility, and balance would certainly lead to a better life: Fewer falls, injuries, better sports, and recreational performance, increased physical comfort throughout the day and night, increased independence, better ability to help and play with those we love… The list is pretty endless.

So, what do you need to? Get moving. Keep moving. Work systematically on both your mobility and stability. Take a moment to review my last two blog posts. Join one of our Live Workouts. Get an amazing cardiovascular workout on an indoor bike. The workout will simulate an outdoor ride, including a mix of intervals and hills.
