Brain Power

Living Well

We are only as powerful as our brains allow us to be.

And so, now is the perfect time to engage our brains, our nervous systems, so we can develop the most awesome strength platform our bodies have ever had.

The central nervous system can create high-powered, skillful movements provided it considers those movements safe. That is, if the brain senses instability, weak neural adaptations that will inhibit full range of motion or encourage injury, it will down regulate power to the muscle. The brain will even sense lack of confidence in a movement and unplug accordingly.

I touched on the importance of neural strength in a few posts and Trainer Moves lately. I have more to share both in terms of science and practical application. But today I want to share a great article from one of my favourite writers – Gretchen Reynolds – from the New York Times.

And thank you Father Dolan for sending the article my way!

Inspiration of the Day

Nunavut or "our land" in the native language Inuktitut.

The Nunavut coat of arms was granted by the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, Governor General of Canada, on April 1, 1999. The colours blue and gold symbolize the riches of the land, sea, and sky. In the base of the shield, the inuksuk symbolizes the stone monuments that guide the people on the land and mark sacred and other special places. The qulliq, or Inuit stone lamp, represents the light and warmth of family and community.
