What you need to know

goal Purpose

Personal trainers can be extremely important to your fitness success - offering the motivation you need to reach your fitness goals. They will create personalized workout plans for you, teach you the proper method to complete various exercises, and track your progression as you continue to train with them.

clock Duration

How long you should train with your personal trainer is dependent on what your goals are. If you're looking to renew your enthusiasm for working out (or just need a new workout regimen), you may only schedule one session a week for 2 - 3 weeks. If you're looking for long-term results, you may be scheduling multiple sessions a week for an extended period of time.

heartbeat Frequency

How often you workout with your trainer depends on you. If you rely on the motivation from a session to get you into the Club, you may want to schedule 2 - 3 sessions each week. If your work with the trainer is to check-in on your progress and improve your technique, you may want to only schedule 1 session a week. If you're not sure what's right for you, talk to your trainer.

watch Movements

The types of movements your trainer incorporates into your individualized program will depend upon your goals, your body, and your abilities. Talk to your trainer to learn why they have (or have not) incorporated specific movements and exercises into your program.

water Lifestyle Changes

Working with a personal trainer is about more than just the work you do in the gym. The personalized program that your trainer devises for you will highlight lifestyle changes that you'll need to make in order to achieve your goals. It may include changes to your nutrition, highlight the amount of sleep you should aim to get each night, or steps you need to take to improve your overall wellness. Regardless, your trainer will help to support, motivate, and encourage you to help you make (and stick with) these lifestyle changes.

line-graph Results

How quickly you'll notice results from your sessions with your personal trainer depends on a number of factors, including the time you invest each week and what your goals are. While noticeable results (i.e. increase in muscle mass and fat loss) can take 3 - 4 weeks, you'll likely see an increase in your motivation, enthusiasm, and energy almost immediately.

FAQ

What is a personal trainer?

Personal trainers are individuals who are certified to have knowledge of general fitness, with training in how to prescribe exercise and instruction. These trainers motivate their clients by setting goals, providing feedback, and offering accountability to their clients. They may also educate their clients in wellness aspects beyond exercise, including general health, nutrition, and wellness.

What education do personal trainers typically have?

All personal trainers at the Toronto Athletic Club hold professional fitness certifications. There are many different types of certifications provided by various governing bodies, with some trainers specializing in specific treatments, programs, etc.

Who needs a personal trainer?

Want the simple answer? Everyone needs a personal trainer!

  • If you're new to working out, a personal trainer can educate you about the best ways to workout and teach you all about the gym/equipment, as well as educating you about  your nutrition, and help you to better understand your body.
  • If you lack motivation, a personal trainer can provide this motivation and hold you accountable to achieving your fitness goals.
  • If you've been recently injured or are rehabilitating an injury, a personal trainer can design and modify a program to help strengthen your body while also ensuring a safe and efficient recovery.
  • If you're a competitive or professional athlete, a personal trainer can assist with the most current dynamic and cutting-edge exercises, to ensure you perform to your peak potential and remain injury free.

How long is a personal training session?

The majority of our personal training sessions at the Toronto Athletic Club are 45 minutes, but the length of your session can be discussed with your trainer on an individual basis.

How much does a personal training session cost?

Personal training sessions will vary in prices based upon the trainer. To determine which trainer is the best match for you, please contact Rob.
