Looking for a challenge for the new year?
We see many different types of resolutions at the Club. Some include weight loss, strengthening, or just members exposing themselves to different things.
Enter: Strength Lab, which will touch on all those things.
Similar to CrossFit, our Strength Lab class will test you both mentally and physically. While it's not for the faint of heart, the class offers a variety of modifications so that the majority of people can participate.
What can you expect from a Strength Lab class?
Each class will start with a dynamic warm-up and progress to some sort of skill (think kipping, double unders, etc.) and then move on to the workout of the day (WOD). Exercises will be a combination of strength (Squats, deadlifts, etc.) and conditioning (Kettlebell swings, box jumps, etc.)
What makes it different from other classes?
Our coaches are with you every step of the way and detail what you can expect in the workout at the beginning of the class. You’ll also likely be lifting heavier weights, including our Olympic bars. Technique is extremely important and our coaches will be watching carefully to ensure a safe lifting experience.
Who is our head coach?
Keren Chen is our ferocious leader. With a B.A. Sc in Nutrition and Food Science from Ryerson, she is also a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer who is certified in specialty sports including Gymnastics and Strongman. She has also found success competing as a 58kg lifter in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting as well as coaching other athletes in competition. Keren believes that combining high-intensity interval training with functional, compound movements is the way to achieve optimal fitness and physical health for anyone! Regardless of your fitness level, there is a way to scale Strength Lab workouts to accommodate your individual ability.
How do I get involved?
We offer two separate 30 minute Strength Lab Foundations classes that allow you to be exposed to our lifts and see what the class is all about. We encourage members to take advantage of our two complimentary sessions!
The Strength Lab community has been steadily growing and current members are always there to provide an encouraging high-five.
