On Monday April 21st, we hosted our first ever annual – and perhaps semi-annual?! – TAC Indoor Triathlon. The wonderful minds of Laura Kalef, James Corcoran and team, developed an indoor challenge consisting of a swim, bike and run that would include all levels. The event was timed, so beginner to elite would be competing together, moving from event to event as one unit. The energy and support was constant and contagious!
The athletes began in the pool, then splashed off to spin on the gym floor, before flying onto treadmills overlooking our fabulous city. In heats of 5 – 6 people, each event ran for exactly 10 minutes wherein each participant completed as many laps and kilometers as they possibly could. With two coaches providing guidance and loads of encouragement, everyone was cheered through each part, while “racing” against themselves. We are extremely proud of the 37 athletes that were part of our inaugural event. Post-race, we celebrated in Stratus toasting everyone’s accomplishments and highlighted those who received the most points in the event. We had a three-way tie for the men! David Douglas, Reid McGregor, and Michael McIssac took the top spot in the male category, while Katie Ozolins was our top female. And a congratulations to our raffle winners for the night!
A special thank you goes out to our coaches for the evening: Laura Kalef, James Corcoran, Aimee Huynh, Meg Sharp, Ginny Weitner, and Aubrey Baron. We could not have done it without you, and I know the athletes loved and appreciate your encouragement.
Congratulations all, and look forward to the next event!
