Now that we have arrived at the fourth installment of our Wellness Travel Series (check out our full round up here and here), we're fairly certain we've convinced you the merits of this type of vacation. Unplugging from the day to day and just truly saying YOLO: You Only Live Once. Last week we took you to Benesse Art Site Naoshima, in this week’s edition of our Luxury Wellness Getaway series, we travel to the region of Puglia in Italy.
From the serene to the surreal, the host of wellbeing experiences available at the five-star Borgo Egnazia in Italy will definitely take you to some unexpected places. With the kids packed off on a range of fun age-specific activities, older members of the family can dive headfirst into the therapeutic treatments the resort specializes in.
Through the use of local lemon zest, olive oil and fresh sage, the experiences available at Borgo Egnazia immerse you in the traditions of the Puglia region, and in the lush Roman baths one can discover a little history of Italy as a whole.
The real magic happens when you take a look at the innovative and ambitious spa programme on offer. Psycho-aromatherapy is described as a “revolutionary way of knowing yourself” where guests can create their own unique scents or massage oils from a plethora of ingredients that reflect their individual moods. There are specialists on hand to guide you through the process, as well as explaining the characteristics of certain smells and the effect they have on our wellbeing.
If everything gets a bit much for you, or the stresses of everyday life don’t seem to be shifting from their usual place on your shoulders, then the resort shaman is on hand to help. After listening to every moan and niggle you may still hold from your former, pre-resort life, they will tend to your needs through massage therapy in order to rewire your body, relax your muscles and rejuvenate your mojo – a must for anyone fortunate to stay at this limestone haven among Puglia’s finest olive groves.
And if you best relax in a slightly different setting, the resort – which offers double rooms at around CA$285 – also boasts of a cigar and games room, with Sky TV and a heavenly platter of special chocolates and boutique liquors to try as the heady aroma of cigar smoke twists gently about the ceiling, lending the room a velvety smooth ambience and womb-like warmth.
Our Wellness Getaway Series continues next week, as we head back to North America, landing in Amangiri Utah, which holds the prestigious title of World’s Best Resort from this year’s Conde Nast Traveller Gold List award.
