Take Your Golf Game to the Next Level in the Offseason

Now that fall is upon us, let's face it - the golf season is winding down. Insert sad face. For some, that would mean putting the clubs away until spring and spending your winter dreaming about the course; instead, you can use this fall and winter to assess, train smart, and strengthen your body-swing connection.

Good Vs. Bad Sugars

Everyone “knows” that sugar is bad for you — but are there “good” vs “bad” sugars?

First things first, there is a big difference between added sugars in boxed/bagged/packaged foods such as candy, pop, cookies, etc vs natural sugars in whole foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

How Alcohol Consumption is Related to Fat Loss

There seems to be this notion among the average gym goers that it is okay to drink certain alcoholic beverages, because they contain zero calories. Vodka and soda is the go-to that I always hear about.

Effects of Alcohol on Building Muscle

Let's just jump straight to it! If you want to build muscle, which is a tough task on it's own, you definitely want to stay away from alcohol consumption.

Alcohol will take away from muscle building for a variety of reasons. Here are a few points on why alcohol consumption is a bad idea when attempting to build muscle:

Do I Need To Go Gluten Free?

Gluten (a protein) can be found in wheat, barley and rye.

With so many processed foods on the market today, it can also be found hiding in salad dressings, condiments, deli meats and even candy. This makes giving up gluten a bit more tricky, and why should we do that in the first place?

Toronto Athletic Club Squash Wins 2017 Division 1 League

Toronto Athletic Club Squash Wins 2017 Division 1 League
Posted: Apr 7, 2017
Cambridge Group of Clubs Squash continues to be a force! We recently shared the Cambridge Club's success in the doubles arena, when they cleaned up at the Canadians Doubles Championships at the Cricket Club (full story here).

Now we proudly congratulate the Toronto Athletic Club as the 2017 Division 1 Toronto and District Squash League Champions!!!

The T&D finals night was hosted at Mayfair Lakeshore last Wednesday evening in front of a packed crowd of spectators including Cambridge Group of Clubs President & CEO Clive Caldwell.  Congratulations to everyone who played this season and a special thanks goes out to team captain Duc Nguyen.

Hear Duc's thoughts on the season in his message to the team, below:

We won! TAC was crowned T&D Div 1 Champions last night on the backs of Matt, Mo, Paco, Neel, Nikhil, a strong crew of supporters, and each of you throughout the season. It was boisterously loud, tense, exciting and elating, with more spectators than February's SPIN VFX tournament there. Generous amounts of beer helped.

Finals Recap

Each division played on a single court, all side by side down the wall. Paco lead off against Mayfair Parkway captain Bruce Marrison. The courts favored Bruce's slower gameplay and put Paco down 0-2 early. Determined but showing a penchant for an abysmal shot during spots of brilliance, Paco fought back, ultimately prevailing 3-2 for our first point. Nikhil got on next vs experienced veteran Trent Haase. Never had I seen someone absorb so well. A tough match for Nikhil under the spotlight and the crowd chants, he gave it his best push but fell 3-2 to Trent.

With the teams tied it was upon Matt to represent against top junior Liam Marrison, and that he did. A workman-like play-through with his high pace cutting off the ball, one got the impression that Liam was overwhelmed by both Matt's pressure and the importance of the moment. 3-0 Matt. Neel took on Mike Pirnak next to hopefully seal our victory. Neel was clinical, forcing his opponent to tin more shots than he made in response to the barrage and took it 3-0 in easy fashion and great cheers. The match was now in hand but that did not prevent Mo from doing the Mohanad show vs Elliot Hunt, Mayfair Parkway's #1. Many of his shots rivaled any PSA shot of the month (we should not be encouraging this..). 3-1 Mohanad and a great end to the night.

Thanks to Josh for the experienced coaching help, everyone who showed up to cheer, and last night's team for their spirit and fight.

A Final Note
2016-2017 has been an epic season for us. Five weeks in and we were at the bottom out of nine teams along with Toronto Blues. A fitting companion. From there the team drove upward, steady and unrelenting with the core belief that we can compete with any other team and go all the way to the Finals. Well Team, we did it! We made the season our own and have a first ever TAC T&D Championship to show for it. This is everyone's trophy, you've all contributed, truthfully. Thank you.
