Congratulations to two Cambridge Club members, John Frederick and Robert Madej, as well as Cambridge Group's very own Squash Professional, Tyler Hamilton, who raced in the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday April 17th. By all appearances it was a great day for the 30,000 runners, not a cloud in sight, and the anticipated high of 18 degrees. As it turned out it got up to 24 degrees by midday making it challenging to say the least with many people cramping up and faltering in the second half of this iconic race.
This Boston Marathon was John Frederick’s 32nd CONSECUTIVE
Boston Marathon which gives him legendary status and puts him in a category with very few other runners. John was having a great race and on pace to finish in less than 4 hours at the halfway point but the heat was unforgiving and he pushed hard to a 4:34:40 finishing time.
Robert Madej is an extremely accomplished marathoner in his own right. He has run over 50 marathons and this was his 10th Boston Marathon. Rob ran very steady splits finishing in an impressive 2:53:48. He was seeded to come in 1,801 based on his qualifying time and ended up placing 816th overall and 46th in his age group.
This was Tyler Hamilton’s 2nd marathon and 1st Boston Marathon. He ran the Toronto Goodlife Marathon last year in 2:57 to qualify for Boston. He finished in a personal best of 2:47:18. He was seeded to come in 2,838 based on his qualifying time and ended up finishing 432nd overall and 326th in his age group.
Well done gents!
