On May 28th the TAC Powerlifting Team gathered at Quantum CrossFit in Toronto for a second round of healthy competition. The meet was under the Canadian Powerlifting Federation.
Hot, humid and feeling strong, the participants were kicking back buckets to fluids to combat the weather. Having competed in two previous meets, the team has been training a solid 8 months for this meet. They all agreed that they would each give it their all and leave nothing on the table, as this would be their last meet for a while.
Lead by their coach and brother in Iron, TAC Personal Trainer Ali El-Mokadem, the team broke records and did the Toronto Athletic Club proud.
The team consisting of Paul "Mad Dog" Chellingworth, Dan "The Swat" Swatridge, and Grant "Colossus" Borcharding, all broke their PRs. Dan, Grant and Ali all receiving first place in their categories, Grant breaking the Canadian National Record for squats and setting a new one in the sub-masters 220 pounds category with a 452 pound Squat. Ali broke and set 3 new National Canadian records in the sub-masters 242 pound category with a 325 pound bench press, 551 pound Deadlift with an overall Total of 1328 pounds.
Feel free to approach any of these fine gentlemen to ask them about their experience, and you will find that each of them has nothing but good things to say. They all had fun, and the iron has definitely strengthened their bond.
