Dr. Lawrence Micheli is the Clinic Manager for The Toronto Athletic Club Sport Medicine Clinic. The clinic location provides easy access for excellent care for the downtown corporate business person as well as for athletes, dancers and musicians.

Dr. Micheli has been using Active Release Techniques (A.R.T. ®) as a treatment tool since 1996 and is also an A.R.T. ® instructor. He is also a member of the A.R.T. ® Elite Provider Network (EPN) which is run by a company called Corporate Solutions, a division within Active Release Techniques (A.R.T. ®). The primary goal of the EPN is to work with various companies to help reduce the incidence of work related injuries. Dr. Micheli is also a provider of Contemporary Medical Acupuncture.

He has provided care for amateur and professional athletes from many sports including hockey, golf, tri-sport athletes, kayak/canoe beach volleyball, figure skating and track and field

Dr. Micheli received his Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and graduated with Honours for his Doctorate of Chiropractic from the National College of Chiropractic.

More recently, Dr. Micheli has persued his interests in working with golfers through the certified Golf Fitness Instructor program at the Titleist Performance Institute.

Dr. Lindsay Voigt is a graduate from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario where she received her Doctor of Chiropractic and has also become a certified Active Release Techniques (ART®) provider.

Prior to becoming a Chiropractor, Dr. Lindsay Voigt obtained a bachelor of sports science degree from Laurentian University and a fitness and lifestyle management diploma from Cambrian College.

Her treatment approach is to find the underlying cause of the problem, keeping the patients best interest in mind. She not only treats the symptoms, but will also work with you to prevent problems from occurring in the future. Each treatment program is designed specifically for the individual. She specializes in treating athletes and those suffering from sports related injuries. In her Chiropractic career Dr. Lindsay Voigt has had the pleasure of working with a number of professional athletes, including members of the International Squash Doubles Association (ISDA) and the Professional Squash Association (PSA).

Dr. Lindsay Voigt, was born and raised in a small theatre town, Stratford, where she developed a passion for biomechanics, the study of human movement. She is highly active in health and fitness and marries that interest with her passion to treat musculoskeletal complaints. Dr. Lindsay Voigt looks forward to assisting her patients in returning to the activities and healthy lifestyles they previously enjoyed.

Chris Broadhurst is a certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association and he is also the Director of The Toronto Athletic Club Sport Medicine Clinic, which specializes in the treatment and care of athletes of all levels.

The Oakville, Ontario native received an undergraduate degree in sports injury management from Sheridan College. His many Post-Graduate Therapy Courses have allowed him to continue developing as a leader within the field.

The 44-year-old Broadhurst received his start in Athletic Therapy in 1986 with the Championship Toronto Blue Jays’ Class A minor league affiliate in St. Catharines, Ontario. 

Chris has been involved in the National Hockey League for over 20 years and has served as Head Athletic Therapist for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Phoenix Coyotes

He was honoured to serve as Athletic Therapist at the 1998 and 2002 NHL All-Star Games and with the Canadian Men’s Hockey Team at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan.  Broadhurst also represented Canada at the 1997, 2006, 2007 World Championships, 1991 Canada Cup and in 2010 was with the Canadian Spengler Cup Team in Davos, Switzerland.

Chris and his wife Kelly have five children: Austin, Michaela, Delaney, Payton and Quinn.

   
JANETTE YEE BPHE, CERTIFIED ATHLETIC THERAPIST

Janette is a graduate of the Physical and Health Education program at the University of Toronto. She received her Diploma in Sports Injury Management from Sheridan College, and became a Certified Athletic Therapist in June 2003.

Since then Janette has specialized her work in the sport of rugby, acting as athletic therapist for the Toronto Scottish Rugby Football Club, Varsity Women’s Rugby Team at the University of Toronto, and the Ontario Senior Women’s rugby team. Most recently, Janette was honoured to serve as Athletic Therapist for the Canadian Women’s Rugby Team, accompanying them on a successful tour to Scotland and Wales.

Janette focuses her work in active rehabilitation for individuals whose injuries keep them from full participation in physical activity. Manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue release and muscle energy are used throughout an exercise program to enhance its efficacy. She enjoys working with clients with a wide range of abilities, from individuals new to exercise to elite athletes.

Janette is a firm believer in active and healthy living. She takes pride in educating and helping clients achieve their health and fitness goals. She enjoys yoga and weight training, and has also played rugby for 15 years. In her down time, you can find Janette enjoying food, wine and friends in Toronto’s many fine dining establishments.

Ian is a Certified Canadian Athletic Therapist who has been working in the field of Sport Medicine and rehabilitation for the past 15 years.

Ian obtained his Honors Bachelors of Physical Education Degree from Laurentian University’s School of Human Movement, and did his post graduate work in Athletic Therapy at Sheridan College in Oakville, where he was granted his Honors Diploma in Sports Injury Management.

Ian has recently returned to Canada after holding a position with the Canadian Performance Company “Cirque du Soleil” as their Senior Tour Therapist for the past 10 years, throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

After returning to Canada in 2007 Ian obtained his Certification as a Muscle Activation Certified Specialist, and is currently practicing at “Core Strength” in the Yonge and Eglinton area in Toronto, as well as the Toronto Athletic Club Downtown.

Ian is also a recognized service provider by Athletics Canada and Sport Canada to treat Canada’s National Athletes, to help them recover from injuries and return back to their sport as quickly as possible.

   
PETER J. CHARBONNEAU B.P.E., A.T., C Ped (C)

He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education Degree and a Diploma in Athletic Therapy and Management. Since completing his formal education, Peter has spent over 20 years in clinical assessment, design and manufacturing of orthotic devices. Working in conjunction with Sports Medicine Physicians, Orthopeadic Surgeons and Podiatrists, he is considered a leader in his profession. Through The College Of Pedorthics Of Canada, Peter has also been awarded the designation of CERTIFIED PEDORTHIST (CANADA). In addition to lecturing on the topics of biomechanics, sports injuries and footwear, Peter has treated numerous Professional Athletes, Olympians, Dancers of the National Ballet and Actors of stage and film, and is the founder of PC Pedorthics. Penny Lee is a sport physiotherapist working at the Sport Medicine Clinic since 2006. Penny graduated from the University of Toronto in Physical Therapy in 1997. She has worked in home, hospital and clinic settings, including 5 years at McGill University in Montreal. While working at McGill, Penny received her diploma in Sport Physiotherapy and has helped athletes return to play from the recreational to elite level of competition. Her sports interests are hockey, running and ultimate frisbee. With 10 years of experience, Penny applies manual therapy with postural education, core stabilization and sport specific rehab in her treatments. Recently, Penny began working in concussion rehabilitation.

Kate Roddy graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a BSc. in Kinesiology. She finished her fourth year in the sports injuries program working with the varsity men's volleyball team as their student athletic therapist. Kate went on to study at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia and completed her Masters of Physiotherapy Studies.

Prior to joining the Toronto Athletic Club Sport Medicine Clinic, Kate worked at the Granite Club for a year and had the opportunity to treat some national and international figure skaters, junior swimmers and tennis players.

Kate has furthered her educational path by taking additional courses in core stability, using diagnostic ultrasound as a biofeedback tool to strengthen the core as a preventive or rehabilitative measure for any sport, or simply for improved posture.

She is an avid cyclist and swimmer but has “attempted/played/battled through enough sports to appreciate the injuries that potentially come with it."

   

JOANNE BEALER, BSc, MScPT, CSCS, CAFCI

Joanne graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. In addition to her physiotherapy training, she has earned the highly regarded designation of Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association and is also certified in medical acupuncture (CAFCI) through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Most recently, while working in Victoria, B.C., she had the opportunity to work with high-level amateur and professional athletes including runners, tri-athletes, rugby players, as well as tennis and squash players. Joanne enjoys treating people of all ages and fitness levels, from absolute beginners to elite athletes.

Coupling her strong academic background with consistent continuing education and clinical experience, Joanne uses active techniques such as hands-on manual therapy, acupuncture, specific corrective exercises, and client education to reduce pain, increase range of motion, improve strength, and optimize function and performance. All of her treatments are directed toward her clients' goals and are geared for maximal results.

Anita graduated from McMaster University with an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Physiotherapy. She has a keen interest in sports physiotherapy which led her to become the student therapist for the McMaster women's basketball and rugby teams during her final two years of kinesiology.

Anita has had experience in a variety of orthopaedic clinic settings including her final training in Brisbane, Australia where she worked with elite level dancers and athletes and received her Pilates Instructor certification from the Pilates Institute of Queensland. She has continued her educational development by taking courses in manual therapy and Pilates and looks forward to pursuing her dry needling certification. She enjoys living an active lifestyle including keeping up with dance, rock climbing, Pilates, running and yoga.

Anita's treatment style is client-centered and she is passionate about the benefits of Pilates for strength and rehabilitation. She strives to empower her patients to achieve optimal recovery by educating on prevention and management of injuries and providing detailed attention to exercise technique.
   


BOB BEREZOWSKI RMT

Bob joined the Toronto Athletic Club Sport Medicine Clinic in 1991. Prior to joining this clinic he worked at the Fitness Institute, in Willowdale.

Bob was educated in Eastern Europe and has over 18 years of extensive experience in sport and deep tissue massage therapy.

Sport massage is a specific technique targeting performance enhancement through range of motion stretching, muscle tension release, muscle adhesion reduction and nerve entrapment using neuromuscular techniques. Deep tissue massage can be one of the most therapeutic and healing massages, and interacts the most with the body's muscles and muscle groups. After a deep tissue massage, sore and tired muscles often become revived and energized.

Although Bob specializes in sport and deep tissue massage, he also takes pride in providing ‘massage education’ to his clients. Topics such as: stretching, exercises, weight training, ice & heat therapy are many of the items discussed with his clients during their scheduled treatment.

Bob is a dedicated runner and has completed several marathons, including Boston and Chicago. His personal interest in running is combined with his desire to educate his clients during treatment, specifically related to the sport of running.

Through massage therapy, Bob can help an athlete prepare for an upcoming event; teach him/her preventative techniques to use during training; or provide post racing massage treatment to ensure a speedy recovery.

Amanda Webber, RMT, certified craniosacral therapist, is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy.

In her 12 years of practice she has worked in a variety of settings from chiropractic and naturopathic clinics  to spa and sports facilities. Professional athletes, musicians, dancers, runners, martial artists, and weekend warriors have all graced her table.

A deep love of learning guides her path and has lead to her to receive training in yoga, thai massage, hot stone therapy, craniosacral therapy, and personal fitness.

While appreciating that one can never fully comprehend the mystery of the body, she's passionate about sharing what she's learned, and has appeared on Body and Health and written for The Complete Doctor's Stress Solution.

Susan Patterson graduated from Canadian Therapeutic College as a Registered Massage Therapist. She is currently registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), and the Ontario Massage Therapy Association (OMTA). She has continued her education with courses in Reflexology, Hot Stone Massage, and workshops for the treatment of motor vehicle accident victims.

To date, her background had been primarily in health care; she worked as a physiotherapist assistant prior to becoming a massage therapist. Additionally, she has an abundance of experience with sports related massage therapy that has been enhanced by participating in sport massage therapy sessions with:

HEATHER ATKINSON, RMT

As a child, Heather had an innate interest in alternative medicine and holistic philosophies on wellbeing. After spending countless hours reading texts and attending yoga/meditation retreats and lectures, she thought bridging a lifestyle with a career path would be the optimal choice for her. She completed her Massage Therapy education at Centennial College, graduating with Honours in 2003.

Her expertise provides clients with a dynamic, intuitive blend of traditional Swedish, deep tissue, sports and Thai massage. She has a strong belief in the capabilities massage therapy has on facilitating the body’s natural abilities to heal, while soothing the mind and cultivating self-awareness. Heather is quick to empower her clients by also sharing ways to maximize their own healing potentials through knowledge and remedial care.

Having practiced in different types of settings, from clinical rehabilitation to upscale spa, she has maintained a close connection to the film, television and music industries since the beginning of her career. This relationship has offered her many unique opportunities as a budding Massage Therapist. She has provided massage therapy “behind-the-scenes” for world renowned actors, directors, musicians and their hard working crew. In winter 2008, Heather was the on-set therapist for a feature film shot in Yucatan, Mexico.

Early in her career, Heather co-authored two articles that explored the research of massage therapy and its impact on HIV+ individuals. Both documents have been published in “The Journal of Soft Tissue Manipulation”.

She has also volunteered for “Beauty Nights” in Toronto, providing massage for marginalized women. This organization allowed her beautiful moments to re-introduce “positive touch” to help re-build trust, confidence and dignity for these women. She has continued her efforts by donating massage treatments for silent auctions at charity events.

Jan Murray has over twenty five years of fitness therapy and massage experience. Jan combines Osteopathy, Pilates, Thai Body Work treatment and appropriate stretching exercises to create a personalized program for each individual under her care.

Jan specializes in assessing and designing exercise programs to address an individual’s unique condition in order to achieve the balanced well-being that suits him or her individually. The program combines stretch and relaxation techniques to drain the body of stress and its accompanying pain. Jan combines strength, flexibility and agility training to help the client cope with stress and face new challenges. She works with her clients to set realistic goals that fit within their lifestyles, avoiding drastic and unpleasant regimes.

Many of Jan’s clients are executives working under intense pressure to perform. Todd is a graduate of Physical and Health Education from Laurentian University. He received his diploma in massage therapy in Toronto from Kikkawa College. Todd has added to his professional repertoire by becoming a student of Osteopathy and will be entering his final year in 2010.

Todd has been a registered massage therapist for over ten years and throughout this time has maintained working in a clinical environment, as well as three different professional sports organizations. His career began with the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL), working as a registered massage therapist (RMT). Today he continues to work as an RMT not only for the Toronto Athletic Club but also with the Toronto Argonauts (CFL) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL).

Through his experience both academically and professionally Todd has acquired a knowledgeable background that allows him to assess and treat an array of conditions.

Tzabia Siegel, BAPhEd, CHN, NNCP, graduated from The University of Western Ontario with a specialty in fitness, from the Edison Institute of Nutrition as a Certified Nutritionist and from the Coaches Training Institute as a Life Coach. She is the founder of The Food Coach, a nutritional education and consulting company that specializes in lifetime weight loss. Tzabia coaches individuals, corporate and employee wellness groups and is known for her broad approach that reflects both behaviour (mind, emotion, soul) and physiology (food,movement,rest). Her understanding of what, when, how, and why we eat is instrumental in the powerful affect she has a coach and the support she gives so that her clients can make effective and real changes in their health, energy and weight.

Tzabia brings an eclectic mix of professional and personal pursuits to the development of her nutritional work.  Her understanding of the science of nutrition and the art of nourishment comes from years of practice as a Nutritional Advisor and the personal studies of food, its effect on us, and the practice and teaching of natural cooking.

Tzabia is a catalyst for her clients to make peace in their relationship with food, to love their bodies, and to develop a deeper respect for themselves.
